गोवर्धन डाकू की एक रोचक कथा : जब एक डाकू भगवान श्री कृष्ण को लूटने पंहुचा वृन्दावन
जब गोवर्धन डाकू ने भगवान कृष्ण की लीलाओं को सुना
गोवर्धन नाम का एक डाकू था, जिसकी पहचान चोरी, डकैती और लूटपाट करने वाले खतरनाक अपराधी के रूप में होती थी। एक दिन, उसने कहीं लूटपाट की , परंतु उसका पीछा करने वाली भीड़ से बचने के लिए वह पास ही चल रही एक कथा में जा पहुंचा। वहाँ श्रद्धालुओं की भारी भीड़ थी, और वह स्वयं को छुपाने के लिए कथा सुनने बैठ गया।
यह कथा करमैती बाई के पिता श्री परशुराम जी महाराज सुना रहे थे। वे श्री ठाकुर जी की दशम स्कंध की कथा का वर्णन कर रहे थे, जिसमें श्रीकृष्ण की बाल लीलाओं और उनके दिव्य स्वरूप का वर्णन किया गया। कथा के दौरान, उन्होंने भक्तों को उस अद्भुत पल की झलक दी, जब यशोदा मैया अपने लाड़ले कन्हैया का श्रृंगार कर रही थीं।
महाराज ने बड़े भावपूर्ण स्वर में कहा, “हमारे कन्हैया कितने मनोहर हैं। उनका सांवला-सलोना रूप, कमल जैसे नेत्र, सुंदर नासिका, चिबुक, और कुंचित केशराशि देखकर मन आनंदित हो उठता है। कन्हैया ने सोने का मुकुट धारण किया है, उनके कानों में मकराकृत कुंडल हैं, और शरीर पर स्वर्णाभूषण की शोभा है। ठाकुर जी का यह दिव्य स्वरूप मोहक है, और उन्हें देखते ही प्रेम उमड़ आता है।”
गोवर्धन डाकू ने लिया भगवान श्री कृष्ण को लूटने का प्रण
जैसे ही गोवर्धन डाकू ने सोने और गहनों का वर्णन सुना, उसका लालच जाग गया। कथा समाप्त होने के बाद, जब सभी लोग महाराज जी से आशीर्वाद लेने आए, तो वह सबसे अंत में रुका। महाराज ने सोचा, “यह व्यक्ति बड़ा धैर्यवान लग रहा है।” लेकिन जैसे ही सब चले गए, गोवर्धन तलवार लेकर महाराज के पास पहुँचा और बोला, “जिस बालक का तुमने अभी वर्णन किया, वह कहाँ रहता है? मुझे उसका पता बताओ।”
महाराज ने मुस्कराते हुए कहा, “क्यों पूछ रहे हो?” गोवर्धन ने जवाब दिया, “लूटना है उसे। लूटपाट हमारा खानदानी काम है।” परशुराम जी समझ गए कि यह भगवान की विशेष कृपा का संकेत है। परशुराम जी मुस्कुराए और बोले, “उसका नाम श्याम सुंदर है। वह वृंदावन, जिला मथुरा में रहता है। लेकिन सुन, उन्हें लूट पाना आसान नहीं है। वह तेरे पकड़ में नहीं आएगा। वह बहुत छलिया है। तेरी जितनी भी चतुराई हो, वह तुझसे आगे रहेगा।”
यह सुनकर गोवर्धन ने कहा, “महाराज जी, अब यह मेरी आन-बान का सवाल बन गया है।” उसने प्रतिज्ञा ली, “जब तक उसे लूट नहीं लूँगा, न पानी पीऊँगा, न भोजन करूँगा।” परशुराम जी ने कहा, “यदि वह गहने न उतारे तो थोड़ा माखन और मिश्री साथ ले जाना। शायद वह उसे देखकर पिघल जाए।” गोवर्धन ने उनकी बात मान ली और माखन-मिश्री बाँधकर वृंदावन की ओर निकल पड़ा।
गोवर्धन डाकू और श्री कृष्ण की अद्भुत मुलाकात
गोवर्धन वृंदावन पहुँच गया और श्याम सुंदर को ढूँढने लगा। ग्वाल-बालों से पूछने लगा, “श्याम सुंदर कहाँ हैं? जो स्वर्ण आभूषण और मोर मुकुट धारण करते हैं।” ग्वाल-बाल उसकी बात सुनकर हँसे और बोले, “वह तो द्वापर युग की बात है। अब कहाँ मिलेंगे?”
लेकिन गोवर्धन को विश्वास था कि कथा झूठ नहीं हो सकती। भूखा-प्यासा, थका-हारा, वह हताश होकर बैठ गया और मन ही मन प्रार्थना करने लगा, “हे ईश्वर, यदि आप सच में हैं और यदि पंडित जी ने जो कहा वह सत्य है, तो मुझे श्याम सुंदर से मिला दे।”
इतने में आवाज आई एक ग्वाला (ग्वारिया) की आवाज आई, “श्याम सुंदर! तुम्हारी गाय इधर जा रही है।” यह सुनकर गोवर्धन डाकू तुरंत उस दिशा में दौड़ा। गोवर्धन यमुना किनारे पहुंचा। वहां का वातावरण अचानक बदल गया। ऐसा लगा जैसे वह किसी और युग में पहुंच गया हो। सब कुछ दिव्य और अद्भुत था।
गोवर्धन ने देखा, गाएं चराते ग्वालों के बीच एक सुंदर बालक पीतांबर धारण किए, करधनी और मोर मुकुट पहने हुए, हाथ में लकुटी लिए खड़ा है। उनकी मुस्कान इतनी मधुर थी कि गोवर्धन कुछ पल के लिए स्तब्ध रह गया।
लेकिन फिर उसने खंजर निकाला और कहा, “अपने सारे गहने उतारो। मैं तुम्हें लूटने आया हूँ।” भगवान मुस्कुराए और बोले, “तू मुझे लूटेगा?” गोवर्धन ने भगवान श्रीकृष्ण से कहा, “क्या तुम मुझसे डरते हो?” श्रीकृष्ण मुस्कुराते हुए बोले, “मैं काल से भी नहीं डरता, तो तुमसे डरने का प्रश्न ही नहीं उठता। लेकिन तुम कौन हो?”
गोवर्धन ने गर्व से कहा, “क्या मेरा नाम नहीं सुना? मेरा नाम गोवर्धन डाकू है।” भगवान मुस्कुराते हुए बोले, “अरे, तू तो केवल गोवर्धन है, मैं तो गोवर्धनधारी हूँ।” जैसे-जैसे भगवान श्रीकृष्ण गोवर्धन से वार्ता कर रहे थे, वैसे-वैसे गोवर्धन का अहंकार और उसका बुरा स्वभाव धीरे-धीरे नष्ट होता जा रहा था।
गोवर्धन ने बहुत कोशिश की, लेकिन भगवान की लीला के आगे उसकी तलवार काम न आई। संघर्ष के बाद गोवर्धन को परशुराम जी की सलाह याद आई। हारकर उसने माखन-मिश्री भगवान को अर्पित की। भगवान ने माखन खाया और कहा, “अब तुम भी खाओ।” जैसे ही गोवर्धन ने भगवान का प्रसाद ग्रहण किया, उसके हृदय की सारी कालिमा मिट गई। उसका चित्त निर्मल हो गया और उसे भगवान का दिव्य स्वरूप दिखाई देने लगा।
गोवर्धन भगवान के चरणों में गिर पड़ा और फूट-फूटकर रोने लगा। उसने अपने कुकर्मों के लिए क्षमा माँगी। भगवान ने कहा, “गोवर्धन, अब तुम हमारे सखा हो।” उसी क्षण गोवर्धन का देह-त्याग हुआ और वह भगवान की ग्वाल मंडली में शामिल हो गया।
When Govardhan Daku listened to Lord Krishna’s Leelas
There was a dacoit named Govardhan, who was known as a dangerous criminal who used to commit theft, robbery and looting. One day, he looted somewhere, but to escape the mob chasing him, he went to a Katha going on nearby. There was a huge crowd of devotees there, and he sat down to listen to the Katha to hide himself.
This Katha was being narrated by Shri Parshuram Ji Maharaj, father of Karmaiti Bai. He was narrating the story of Shri Thakur Ji’s Dasham Skandha, which describes the childhood Leelas of Shri Krishna and his divine form. During the Katha, he gave the devotees a glimpse of the wonderful moment when Yashoda Maiya was adorning her beloved Kanhaiya.
Maharaj said in a very emotional voice, “How charming our Kanhaiya is. The mind becomes happy seeing his dark-skinned form, lotus-like eyes, beautiful nose, chin, and curly hair. Kanhaiya is wearing a golden crown, he has makara-shaped earrings in his ears, and his body is adorned with golden ornaments. This divine form of Thakurji is captivating, and love overflows upon seeing him.”
Govardhan Daku vowed to rob Lord Shri Krishna
As soon as Govardhan Daku heard the description of gold and jewelry, his greed arose. After the story was over, when everyone came to seek blessings from Maharaj ji, he stayed last. Maharaj thought, “This person seems very patient.” But as soon as everyone left, Govardhan came to Maharaj with a sword and said, “Where does the boy you just described live? Tell me his address.”
Maharaj smiled and said, “Why are you asking?” Govardhan replied, “We have to rob him. Looting is our family business.” Parshuram ji understood that this is a sign of God’s special grace. Parshuram ji smiled and said, “His name is Shyam Sundar. He lives in Vrindavan, District Mathura. But listen, it is not easy to rob him. He will not come under your control. He is very cunning. No matter how clever you are, he will be ahead of you.”
Hearing this, Govardhan said, “Maharaj Ji, now this has become a matter of my honour.” He took a vow, “Until I rob her, I will neither drink water nor eat food.” Parshuram Ji said, “If she does not remove her jewellery, then take some butter and sugar candy with you. Perhaps she will melt after seeing it.” Govardhan accepted his words and carrying butter and sugar candy, set out towards Vrindavan.
Amazing meeting of Govardhan dacoit and Shri Krishna
Govardhan reached Vrindavan and started looking for Shyam Sundar. He asked the cowherds, “Where is Shyam Sundar, the one who wears gold ornaments and a peacock crown.” The cowherds laughed at him and said, “That was from the Dwapar era. Where will we find him now?”
But Govardhan was sure that the story cannot be false. Hungry and thirsty, tired and exhausted, he sat down in despair and started praying in his heart, “O God, if you are real and if what the Pandit ji said is true, then make me meet Shyam Sundar.”
Just then a voice came, a cowherd’s voice said, “Shyam Sundar! Your cow is going this way.” Hearing this, Govardhan the robber immediately ran in that direction. Govardhan reached the banks of the Yamuna. The atmosphere there suddenly changed. It seemed as if he had reached some other era. Everything was divine and wonderful.
Govardhan saw a beautiful boy wearing yellow clothes, a belt and a peacock crown, holding a stick in his hand standing among the cowherds grazing their cows. His smile was so sweet that Govardhan was stunned for a few moments.
But then he took out a dagger and said, “Take off all your ornaments. I have come to rob you.” The Lord smiled and said, “Will you rob me?” Govardhan said to Lord Krishna, “Are you afraid of me?” Shri Krishna smiled and said, “I am not afraid of even death, so there is no question of being afraid of you. But who are you?”
Govardhan said proudly, “Didn’t you hear my name? My name is Govardhan Daaku.” The Lord smiled and said, “Hey, you are just Govardhan, I am Govardhandhari.” As Lord Krishna was talking to Govardhan, Govardhan’s ego and his bad nature were slowly getting destroyed.
Govardhan tried a lot, but his sword was of no use in front of the divine play of the Lord. After the struggle, Govardhan remembered the advice of Parshuram. Defeated, he offered butter and sugar to the Lord. The Lord ate the butter and said, “Now you also eat.” As soon as Govardhan accepted the Lord’s offering, all the darkness of his heart vanished. His mind became pure and he started seeing the divine form of the Lord.
Govardhan fell at the Lord’s feet and started crying profusely. He asked for forgiveness for his misdeeds. The Lord said, “Govardhan, now you are our friend.” At that very moment, Govardhan died and joined the Lord’s group of cowherds.
જ્યારે ગોવર્ધનને ડાકુએ ભગવાન કૃષ્ણની બાળ લીલાઓ સાંભળી
ગોવર્ધન નામનો એક ખૂંખાર ડાકુ હતો, જે ચોરી, લૂંટફાટ અને ડકૈતી માટે જાણીતો હતો. એક દિવસ તે લૂંટફાટ કર્યા પછી ભાગી રહ્યો હતો. પીછો કરતી ભીડથી બચવા માટે તે નજીકમાં ચાલી રહેલી એક ભગવત કથામાં ઘૂસી ગયો. કથાસ્થળે શ્રદ્ધાળુઓની ભીડ હતી, અને પોતાને છુપાવવા તે શ્રોતાઓ વચ્ચે બેસી ગયો.
આ કથા કરમૈતી બાઈના પિતા શ્રી પરશુરામજી મહારાજ દ્વારા પ્રસ્તુત કરવામાં આવી રહી હતી. તેઓ શ્રીકૃષ્ણની દશમ સ્કંધની કથા સાંભળાવી રહ્યા હતા, તેઓ શ્રીકૃષ્ણની બાળ લીલાઓની વાત કરી રહ્યા હતા. કથા દરમિયાન, તેમણે ભક્તોને એ અદ્ભુત પળની ઝાંખી કરાવી, જ્યારે યશોદા મૈયા પોતાના લાડલા કનૈયાનો શ્રૃંગાર કરી રહ્યા હતા.
મહારાજએ ભાવપૂર્વક કહ્યું, “અમારા કન્હૈયા કેટલા મોહક છે! તેમનું શ્યામળા-સલોનુ રૂપ, કમળ જેવા નેત્રો, સુંદર નાક, ઠોડા અને લહેરાતા વાળ જોઈને મન આનંદિત થઈ જાય છે. કન્હૈયાએ સોનાનો મુગટ પહેર્યો છે, તેમના કાનમાં મકરાકૃતિના કુંડલ છે, અને તેમના શરીરે સોનાના આભૂષણોનો શણગાર છે. ઠાકુરજીનું આ દિવ્ય સ્વરૂપ મોહક છે, અને તેમને જોઈને પ્રેમ ઉછળી જાય છે.”
ગોવર્ધન ડાકુએ ભગવાન કૃષ્ણને લૂંટવાની પ્રતિજ્ઞા લીધી
ગોવર્ધન ડાકુએ જ્યારે કથામાં શ્રીકૃષ્ણના સોનાના આભૂષણ અને વૈભવનું વર્ણન સાંભળ્યું કે તરત જ તેનો લોભ જાગી ગયો. કથા પૂરી થયા પછી, જ્યારે બધા લોકો મહારાજ પાસે આશીર્વાદ લેવા આવ્યા, ત્યારે ગોવર્ધન છેલ્લે ત્યાં રહ્યો. મહારાજ પરશુરામજી વિચારતા હતા, “આ માણસ ઘણો ધીરજવાન લાગે છે.” પણ જેમ જ બધાં ચાલ્યા ગયા, તે તરતજ તલવાર કાઢીને મહારાજના નજીક આવ્યો અને પૂછ્યું, “જે બાળકનું તમે વર્ણન કર્યું, તે ક્યાં રહે છે? મને તેનો સરનામું બતાવો.”
રાજાએ હસીને કહ્યું, “તમે કેમ પૂછો છો?” ગોવર્ધને જવાબ આપ્યો, “એને લૂંટવું છે. લૂંટફાટ એ અમારો પારિવારિક વ્યવસાય છે.” પરશુરામ જી સમજી ગયા કે આ ભગવાનની વિશેષ કૃપાની નિશાની છે. પરશુરામજીએ હસતાં હસતાં કહ્યું, “તેનું નામ શ્યામ સુંદર છે. તે મથુરા જિલ્લાના વૃંદાવનમાં રહે છે. પણ સાંભળ, એને લૂંટવું આટલું સરળ નથી. તે તારા હાથમાં નહિ આવે. તે બહુ ચતુર છે અને તારા કરતા અનેક ગણી આગળ છે.”
આ સાંભળીને ગોવર્ધન બોલ્યો, “મહારાજજી, હવે આ મારા માટે ગર્વની વાત બની ગઈ છે.” તેણે પ્રતિજ્ઞા લીધી, “જ્યાં સુધી હું તેને લૂંટી ન લઈશ ત્યાં સુધી હું ન તો પાણી પીશ અને ન તો ભોજન ખાઈશ.” પરશુરામજીએ કહ્યું, “જો તે તેના ઘરેણાં ન ઉતારે, તો તમારી સાથે થોડું માખણ અને મિશ્રી લઈ જા. કદાચ તે ગદગદ થઈ જાય.” ગોવર્ધન તેની વિનંતી માટે સંમત થયા અને માખણ અને મિશ્રી બાંધી અને વૃંદાવન તરફ પ્રયાણ કર્યું.
ગોવર્ધન ડાકુ અને શ્રી કૃષ્ણની અદ્ભુત મુલાકાત
ગોવર્ધન વૃંદાવનમાં પહોંચ્યો અને શ્યામસુંદરને શોધવા લાગ્યો. તે ગ્વાળ બાળોથી પૂછવા લાગ્યો, “શ્યામસુંદર ક્યાં છે? જે સોનાના આભૂષણ અને મોરનો મુગટ ધારણ કરે છે.” ગ્વાળબાળ તેની વાત સાંભળી હસી પડ્યા અને બોલ્યા, “અરે, એ તો દ્વાપર યુગની વાત છે. હવે ક્યાં મળશે?”
પરંતુ ગોવર્ધનને ખાતરી હતી કે કથા ખોટી નથી હોઈ શકતી. ભૂખ્યો, તરસ્યો અને થાકેલો ગોવર્ધન નિરાશ થઈને બેસી ગયો અને મનમાં પ્રાર્થના કરવા લાગ્યો, “હે ઈશ્વર, જો તમે ખરેખર છો અને પંડિતજી જે કહ્યું તે સાચું છે, તો મને શ્યામસુંદરને મળાવી દો.”
એટલામાં એક ગોવાળિયાનો અવાજ આવ્યો, “શ્યામ સુંદર! તારી ગાય અહીં જઈ રહી છે.” આ સાંભળીને ગોવર્ધન ડાકુ તરત જ એ દિશામાં દોડ્યો. ગોવર્ધન યમુના કિનારે પહોંચ્યો. ત્યાંનું વાતાવરણ અચાનક બદલાઈ ગયું. એવું લાગ્યું કે જાણે તે બીજા યુગમાં પહોંચી ગયો હોય. બધું જ દિવ્ય અને અદભુત હતું.
ગોવર્ધને જોયું કે ગાયો ચરાવતા ગ્વાળબાળોની વચ્ચે એક સુંદર બાળક પીતાંબર પહેરેલા, કરધની અને મોરમુખુટ ધારણ કરેલા, હાથમાં લકુટી લઈને ઉભા છે. તેમની સ્મિત એટલી મીઠી હતી કે ગોવર્ધન થોડા ક્ષણ માટે થંભી ગયો.
પણ પછી તે ખંજર કાઢીને બોલ્યો, “તારા બધાં આભૂષણ ઉતાર! હું તને લૂંટવા આવ્યો છું.” ભગવાન સ્મિત કરતા બોલ્યા, “તુ મને લૂંટશે?” ગોવર્ધને પૂછ્યું, “શું તું મારા થી ડરતો નથી?” શ્રીકૃષ્ણ હસતાં બોલ્યા, “હું તો કાળથી પણ નથી ડરતો, તો તારા થી શું ડરવું? પણ તું કોણ છે?”
ગોવર્ધને ગર્વથી કહ્યું, “મારું નામ નથી સાંભળ્યું? હું ગોવર્ધન ડાકુ છું.” ભગવાન હસતાં બોલ્યા, “અરે, તું તો ફક્ત ગોવર્ધન છે, હું તો ગોવર્ધનધારી છું!” જેમ જેમ શ્રીકૃષ્ણ ગોવર્ધન સાથે વાત કરતા ગયા, તેમ તેમ ગોવર્ધનનો અહંકાર અને તેનો દુષ્ટ સ્વભાવ ધીમે ધીમે નાશ પામતો ગયો.
ગોવર્ધને ઘણાં પ્રયત્ન કર્યા, પણ ભગવાનની લીલા સામે તેની તલવાર કાંઈ કામ ન આવી. સંઘર્ષ પછી, તેને પરશુરામજીની સલાહ યાદ આવી. અંતે તે માખણ અને મિશ્રી લઈને ભગવાનને અર્પણ કરી. ભગવાને માખણ ખાધું અને કહ્યું, “હવે તું પણ ખા.” જેમ જ ગોવર્ધને ભગવાનનો પ્રસાદ લીધો, તેમ તેનું હ્રદય શુદ્ધ થઈ ગયું. તેને ભગવાનનો દિવ્ય સ્વરૂપ દેખાવા માંડ્યો.
ગોવર્ધન ભગવાનના ચરણોમાં પડી ગયો અને રડી રડીને પોતાના પાપો માટે માફી માંગવા લાગ્યો. ભગવાન બોલ્યા, “ગોવર્ધન, હવે તું અમારા સખા છો.” એ જ ક્ષણે ગોવર્ધનનો દેહત્યાગ થયો અને તે ભગવાનની ગ્વાળમંડળીમાં સામેલ થઈ ગયો.
